Cookie, the miniature horse rescued by Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre (EHCRC) after being abandoned to die on wasteground in Benijofar at Easter, is in Barcelona awaiting treatment from Spain's top horse vet.
The vet, Gaspar Castelijns, who recently tried to save another of the centre's miniatures, Princess, will operate soon to repair Cookie's damaged legs.

Last Wednesday Guardia Civil officers were investigating whether two bodies found floating 20 miles from Jávea beach in Valencia were part of a larger group of migrants who had tried to reach Spain in a rickety boat earlier this month. Maritime authorities were alerted to a body floating near Ibiza early Wednesday morning by a boat in the vicinity. On approaching the area, the rescue team found the second body floating nearby.

According to reports, it would appear that an invasion of giant rats has taken over the Benicalap area of Valencia that has resulted in many people calling on the Town Hall to intervene.
Technicians from the Health Department have already located and destroyed dozens of rats nests that appear to have been on areas near Calle Carlos Climent Gonzalez, and even they have expressed surprise at the size of the animals, but this was apparently due to the dumping of a water recipient and at least five [...]

Authorities say that the Feria de Ganado de Dolores, the Dolores Cattle Fair, will not be held this year because of the economic crisis. This was confirmed last week by Mayor Gabriel Gascon who said that the Council could not afford the annual subsidy of approximately 150,000 euro.
Gascón said that the measure was "tough but necessary" and required so as to maintain necessary funding of social services department which he felt were more important that a cultural or festive activity [...]

The recent opening of ‘de Bassus Bavaria' in La Zenia has not only brought a comfortable German Beerhouse to the region it has also brought it's very own brewery where beer is made in full view of its curious customers.
Situated within sight of the La Zenia motorway toll booths the beer is produced ‘in house' in three large tubs which are located right in the centre of the bar. The recipe it also its own with barley and all other ingredients imported direct from Germany.

Albufereta Beach was closed On Sunday afternoon after the Red Cross found a large quantity of diesel fuel about 100 metres long and 80 meters out from the coast, forcing the swimmers out of water.
The spill was confirmed by the Department of Beaches and Red Cross lifeguards hoisted the red flag at17.45.
A dozen swimmers, including a civil defence volunteer, had to be treated by medical staff for a variety of ailments including itching and sore throats. Only one was transferred to the Clinic Vistahermosa [...]

A cargo vessel docked at Pier 13 in the Port of Alicante was attended by five tenders from the Alicante Fire Service as well as a number of tugboats, equipped with hoses, from the Maritime Fire Service on Monday morning after a blaze was reported to have caught in its hold
The fire was reported at 9.30 am and was attended by a dozen officers who brought it under control within about 40 minutes. No one was injured in the blaze.

A fire between Villamartin and Los Dolses last Monday was brought under contro the following morning. It started at 5pm, and 15 houses in the area of La Rioja had to be vacated.
Fortunately the measure was precautionary and none of the homes were damaged. However, the area of land burnt was 500 square metres of scrubland and pine trees. Over fifty fire fighters were quick to act, and two hidro-planes were quickly on the scene, dumping water on the flames.

The latest airline to pull our of San Javier Airport is Air Berlin, who announced last Tuesday in a press release that due to the lack of support from the Murcian government, and due to a drop in reservations, they planned to stop all their flights in and out of San Javier airport by the summer of 2011.
The airline is placing the blame for this situation on the Councillor for Tourism for Murcia, who wouldn't agree to sign a financial agreement to promote the region of Murcia in Germany, and which [...]

Three days of fun in the sun may seem like a long time, but for the many people who attended the Entre Naranjos fiesta, it wasn´t long enough.
The Mayor of Entre Naranjos, John Reynolds, opened the event and dedicated the entire fiesta to Antonio Garcia, who had organised a similar event last year, but sadly past away.
Then the fun began. With the most varies line up of entertainers, from swing to rock, dancers to comedy, there was something for everyone.
