Las Colinas Golf Resort – 16th August 2010
Doug Maddison really wanted to play at Las Colinas Golf Resort, his first try was in May but he was ill on the course and was unable to complete 18 holes, then on a Society day on the 21st June he telephoned to say he was ill and could not make it, sadly nine days later he passed away.
On our way to Las Colinas a large black cloud was hovering over Las Colinas everywhere else there was blue sky, on our arrival at the course there was a deluge of [...]

Many irate Murcians are being forced to spend the first few days of their holidays standing in long queues as Passport offices in the city are completely overwhelmed by the numbers who have left it too late to renew their travel documents.
There are no pre-booked appointments available now until the 7th October, so those who have not booked a slot are having to queue from 5am in the morning, trying to get one of the 60 allocated places for those who turn up on the day.
By 6am, many are already [...]

Not a great turnout for our day at Roda but that was understandable due to the workload of some of our members and the very hot weather. The course as always was in good condition and many thanks to all at Roda.
There were some good scores coming in with the usual golfers getting their normal handicap cuts, they are beginning to find their levels making high scores harder to come by. Our handicap secretary Mack "the knife" is happy to be kept busy. After golf we returned to Paddy's [...]

Some time ago a plot of land in Pau 26 was requisitioned by the waste company Fenoll. This was a move denounced on several occasions by Los Verdes resulting in the Town Hall eventually evicting and ordering the company to put the land back to its original state - clearing the area of debris and planting pine trees.
This was, unfortunately never achieve as at the beginning of March, the “Day of the Tree” was celebrated and 70 school children turned up at the site to plant 300 pine [...]

Orihuela City is empty. Just about all its inhabitants have headed to the coast, and won't be back until the beginning of September.
Every year, as the temperatures increase the population of the town decreases. The only breather for the town was the agricultural fair on August 15th, which attracted visitors and gave the local shops and businesses in the town with a much needed boost.
However, the date of the fair has been changed to the beginning of September, to coincide with the Fiestas [...]

This was our first visit as a Society to this fantastic addition to the golfing opportunities available to us here on the Costa Blanca. If they are to maintain their standing, however, they must look at every aspect of their operation with the same degree of thoroughness as has obviously been given to the quality of the buildings themselves Impressed as I was with the slate walls in the clubhouse toilets,
I was even more impressed to find the same material in use in the toilets out on the course. [...]
